Swimming at the Park

A local park is investigating adding swimming to the activities that the park provides. There is already a small pond (approx 1.5-2 acres) on the property, but no swimming is allowed. Park officials seem to be leaning more towards building a pool. Let's briefly explore this idea. All thoughts in the comments are greatly appreciated.

    1. 5 Positives of the Park having a pool

    2. Upgrading facilities

increases the overall value of the property for the town and brings new amenities to the community

    3. More controlled environment

    4. Can be heated to extend the season

Not sure if this has been considered but it is an option

    5. Some residents may view it as cleaner

    6. Easier to hold organized activities like swim teams, swimming classes, etc.

    7. 5 Negatives of Adding a Pool to the Park

    8. Expense

Both in the construction and maintenance

    9. Loss of Land

The pool facility would be placed on existing open land within the park. This would decrease the amount of green lawn space.

    10. Lifeguard staffing

In our area, this has been an issue the last couple seasons. The park would need lifeguards with a pond as well, but pools generally require more staffing.

    11. More crowded

    12. Pool toys

Most pools prohibit pool toys, such as air mattresses or tubes. These are easier to manage at a pond "beach".

    13. Let me know your thoughts.
