Ten Rules I (Try To) Live By
Late list today... a bit more contemplative than usual.
1. Maintain Your Priorities
Know what's important, focus on those things.
2. "Don't Sweat The Little Things"
As in the book.
3. Build Systems, Never Rely on Memory Alone
Too much minutia enclosed in the "big" things. Systems help avoid missing those little steps.
4. "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life"
H/T Monty Python's "Life of Brian" - not great with this one, but usually come around to it in time.
5. Their Problems Are Not My Problems
Help if I can, but their problems don't define me. This is a hard one with the 18 year old... but, again, working on it.
6. Be In The "Now"
Sometimes it's easy - on the football field, out with the family. Other times it takes a lot of effort to avoid thinking back or ahead.
7. Support People With Practical Help
Help them solve the problem... while remembering #5.
8. Keep Learning and Stay Curious
Sometimes I dip a toe in and give up, but at least I'm trying different things. I do have more understanding of AI than my son, for example.
9. Take Care Of Yourself
Especially health-wise... which is pretty good at this stage. Can't help others if you're a cluster.
10. Reasonable People Can Disagree
And still maintain their positive relationship (agree to disagree).
