How I became a more prolific writer using these tools
These are the tools I use every day and this is the process that I've honed and tweaked over the past 12 months.
1. Napkin
My thought and idea capture tool. I've been using Napkin for several months. It really began to make a difference when I started a daily log habit. I use a Shortcut on my phone to input an idea, thought or observation. This then appears in my Napkin Inbox as a single thought. I can add tags, URLs, references, and my own notes. Thoughts are resurfaced at random or if you follow a tag. It's a great way to find inspiration in content you've saved. There are also Stacks where you can organise notes as a starting point for writing long form content.

A recent and exciting new find, I see the potential for NotePD to take my ideas to the next level. I can take a headline from Napkin and use it as my NotePD list title. There may be related thoughts in Napkin which then become one of the ten ideas in my NotePD list.
I'm planning to use NotePD in a few ways. To outline longer articles. To use as writing practice or for idea creation. To create fun lists such as Top 10 favourite ...3. Twos
What is Twos? Is it a to do app? Is it a note taking app? Or a combination?
I've used a lot of productivity apps over the years but I'm really enjoying Twos because it's a bit quirky. The developers describe it as a tool for remembering Things. I remember what I need to do each day, I can see my daily agenda, as well as my to do list. If you think of it more in terms of document creation, you can add meeting notes or, as I do, a monthly log. I can make this public and share it with my subscribers. This has a double whammy of keeping me accountable and remembering to update it, and I can track what I've been doing in my quarterly and annual reviews.4. Obsidian
Originally the starting point and the tool that got me started with PKM and becoming serious about my writing, Obsidian is central to my workflow. It's here that I save quotes, Kindle and Matter highlights. I log what I'm reading, and I use Obsidian to publish some of my writing. There's also a private repository for work, client projects, managing our home etc. I use Obsidian as my writing tool and drafts for Medium, Substack, my website and elsewhere start life here.
