The Ego Ain't Your Amigo - Four Curveballs To Be Mindful Of
Ego - Edging God Out
Ego - Tries to usurp God
Ego - Made up sense of self
Ego - The unloving part of my mind
I can choose Heaven (Holy Spirit's Thought System) or Hell (Ego's thought system) but not both.

1. Curve Ball #1 - Regret
― Kurt Vonnegut
Shoulda, coulda, and woulda (triplets)
I should have saved more for retired.
I should have been a better father.
I could have been rich by now if I'd been more diligent with saving.
I would have done better in life if my father had been present.
We all know the old song and dance of the ego's thought system.
The ego is very adept at taking me out of the present moment. It loves bringing up the past (as punishment of course) or promising me this crystal ball future which either never comes or doesn't live up to all the hype.
It's one damn judgment on top of another. Judgment of myself but also projecting this judgment onto you because it's far too much for me to bare all the pain alone.
If you would have listened to my advice things would be different for us.
You should stop shopping so much because we have too much debt already.
If you loved me then you would not treat me this way.
How could you do this to me after I help pay your way through law school?
I strike out every single time I swing at this curve ball.
It anchors me in the story of me.
I try and play God, pretending that I know what's best for others and myself.
Swinging at this ball always takes me to the gates of hell.
2. Curve Ball #2 - Living in the Past
― Rasheed Ogunlaru
My ego puts a lot of spit (Guilt) on this curve ball before the pitch.
I feel guilty because I did that and also feel guilty because I didn't do this.
I keep rehashing the story because you know I've got to share it with my closest friends.
My entire identity is locked up in a past or a future.
I've made the events of my life be who and what I am.
I've made God an utter failure.
A curve ball guaranteed to cause a strike every time I swing.
3. Curve Ball #3 - Focus is Out There not In Here
― George Eliot, Middlemarch
I read a book many years ago by Fred Alan Wolf Ph.D., titled - Dr. Quantum Presents A User's Guide to Your Universe. One line from the book that I distinctly remember, "there is no out there, out there, - there's only in here, in here.
I try and impose my will upon the world.
I try and change and rearrange things, people, and places so that I can be happy.
I credit the world for the brief happiness I appear to enjoy and in the same breath I blame people in world when things don't go as I planned.
I tell myself that I am unhappy not only because of what you said but also how you said it.
I tell myself if you would show up differently (change what you're currently doing to please me) that I would be happy.
I'll be happy once I cross the 6-figure mark...now it's the 7-figure mark, now it's 8-figure mark...just let me earn more money than Bezos then I will be happy.
But if it were out there - why all the unhappiness, drug and alcohol abuse, unkind words, killing and maiming , suicides, etc.
This curve ball of the ego is quite seductive and it's easy to take a swing at. Strike!
4. Curve Ball #4 - Focus on the Body
― Jess C Scott,
Being 100% focus on my body is my failed attempt to make the illusion real.
Illusion - we are separate
Truth - we are One
Every social media platform I visit I notice how obsessed we are with the body. We have so many motions and potions to improve the body's image that's it's impossible to keep up with it all. Nothing wrong with any of these of course - but it will never makes anyone happy.
As the body begins to fade is when the real fear steps in. We fight it tooth and nail against the aging process as we could somehow prevent the inevitable - death
Life and death are the only two things that can happen to a body.
Our egos know that we are narcissists so this curve ball is one that is most frequently used (I like to call this one the slider)
If all I focus on is my body - STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE
The road is paved with sadness and disappointment.
My body's function is to extend love not to see how many likes, shares, and comments I can summon on my latest post.
My body is a communication device, an instrument to be used wisely but it is not what I Am.
My body's function is to be loving and to spread that love to those around me - not for me to be a slave to my body.
