The Lightning Kid's Greatest Milestones
I've often said that Special Needs Parenting is like regular parenting with the dial turned to 11. As such, when your child hits a milestone, it's an even bigger deal. Some of these milestones involve integrating skills in a way typical kids can take for granted.
1. Crawling
We engaged with physiotherapy to hit this milestone. We started early, before any delay became too apparent, and were able to have him do only an hour or so a week so that he wouldn't (a baby at the time) get overwhelmed.
2. First Steps
3. Reading Words
4. Riding a Bike
This one took a while, and if anyone thinks riding a bike is a skill you learn once and never forget, I'm here to correct you on that.
5. Multiple Digit Addition and Subtraction
6. Multiplication and Long Division
I think we're going to be revisiting the latter this year again, I don't think he has this one solidly.
7. Swimming
I love being around the water, and when you know your kid won't drown when he's out of reach is a huge relief.
8. New Vocabulary, Expressions
Expressive speech is one of the Lightning Kid's biggest delays, so when we hear a new term or figure of speech, it always makes us smile
