The quirkiest stately home in England

    1. Patchwork quilt

Thornbridge Hall, near Bakewell, is quirky. It's made up of several centuries of adaptations, additions and alterations. Many of the features are original. Wood panelling. Flock wallpaper. Stained glass.

    2. Juxtaposition

What makes Thornbridge unique is the blend of the old and the contemporary. A basement nightclub rubs shoulders with exquisite wood carvings. Old master paintings feature the faces of the two owners. A restored frieze sits alongside Andy Warhol paintings.

    3. Heart and soul

The owners, Emma and Jim, have created Thornbridge to be enjoyed by all and in trust for the future. You're visiting their home as well as a listed building. It's lived in and has a vibe all of its own.
