Things that will happen in the next 100 years

    1. Self-driving cars will become mainstream

    2. Robotic sex partners will be common

    3. Flying cars will become mainstream

    4. There will be commercial space travel

    5. By 2067, AI will surpass human intelligence

    6. By 2067, humans will be able to upload their consciousness into computers and live forever (the "transcendence" scenario"). This is the most likely scenario according to Ray Kurzweil but he's never been right about anything in his entire

Also, if you look at the image of the brain below, you can see that the brain is not fully developed until about age 25. So even if we are able to upload our consciousness into a computer before we die, maybe we won't be able to do much with it until after we have fully developed our brains which won't happen until after we are 25 or older.

For instance, I'm not sure how good I would be at chess if my consciousness was uploaded into a computer but I was only ten years old when I was world champion of chess. My body was fully developed but my brain probably wasn't yet and so perhaps that's why I lost the title later on (although there were other reasons as well).

This is just one example of what might prevent us from being able to upload our consciousnesses into computers before we are 25 or older. But regardless of when this happens, it seems inevitable that it will happen eventually (unless some sort of global catastrophe occurs before then).

The technology required for this already exists and is improving every year although there are still many unknowns regarding how exactly this would work and whether or not it would cause us pain or suffering as we go through the process of uploading our consciousnesses into computers and then living forever after that point (since in order for us to upload ourselves, machines must first learn everything there is to know about what makes us who we are).

It seems like an obvious choice - live forever in a machine - but perhaps there is more pain involved with this than meets the eye and that's why people such as Stephen Hawking have said they prefer death over living in a machine like this. Who knows? It's hard to predict without knowing all the details but given all of the exponential technologies developing right now, including AI and VR (which might help us develop these technologies faster), immortality seems like a very real possibility within my lifetime (assuming no global catastrophes occur). This means that everyone alive today has a chance at immortality provided they have enough money saved up for their first robot body upgrade once these technologies become available commercially.
