Thoughts That Crossed My Mind Today

    1. About Startup/Companies Firing on Dips

    0

I thought that if a company or a startup needs to fire 100s or 1000s of their employees in general, and in one go in particular, during a bad economic cycle, there is fundamentally a flaw in the operating model. I think C-level should fire themselves first. These companies or startups are not digital and, by extension, neither agile nor adaptable. With Staff on Demand, it is important to think strategically about hiring and building long-term autonomous core teams with access to a pool of Staff on Deman like Upwork.

    2. Intellectual Properties System Needs to Adapt

With a fast-changing, unpredictable, and highly connected world, I wonder if 10 years expiration term applied to all IPs is good for innovation. The terms should be adjustable depending on how easily an idea can be conceived. I need to think a bit more, but I feel the world still lacks good ideas. Hence, NotePD :)

    3. Appreciating Life In the Magic of Everyday things

    0

How do we make it a habit to appreciate the small things every day?

Chardin’s paintings do a remarkable job of surfacing the magic in ordinary scenes. Journaling is one such tool if we dont have the luxury of visiting the Louvre every day :)

    4. Montaigne

I want to read the Complete Essays by the Renaissance philosopher Michel de Montaigne. Nassim Taleb recommends the book or essays.

“I quote others only in order the better to express myself.” ― Michel de Montaigne, The Complete Essays

    5. Building Adaptability Is Like Selling a Call Option

    0

Investing in something that doesn't yield a return within the foreseeable future is hard. I found it hard to explain to not IT executives and clients why they need to invest in building adaptability. They expect an ROI. Using call option analogy sometimes helps. Building a digital platform for self-service is a call option :)

#5 - If you can think of (or even engineer) a couple of quick and easy ways to increase ROI right now by building adaptability (not just in the long-term), it would probably make your case a lot simpler to explain. And it's not that hard to do, so...

Absolutely agree. That is what we are doing. It is not difficult to showcase adaptability using technology. The issue is when you explain to customers the need to change the culture, the mindsets, and the team structure, to build adaptability effectively and continuously. I am thinking of writing a whole booklet about it :)
