    1. We have cognitive biases that reinforce our existing beliefs.

    Confirmation bias leads us to seek information that aligns with our beliefs and ignore or dismiss conflicting evidence, making it difficult to let go of long-held beliefs.

    2. Over time, our beliefs become intertwined with our identity, values, and emotions. Letting go of these beliefs feels like losing a part of ourselves. The emotional attachment we have to our long held beliefs is daunting.

    3. Our long-held beliefs provide a sense of “stability and certainty” in an uncertain world. Letting go of these beliefs creates a fear of the unknown and a fear of losing control.

    Holding on to such beliefs makes it impossible to embrace new perspectives or ideas even if the beliefs are hurting us.
