Timeshare hard sell

When I was in Maui I say through a 90 minute sales pitch for a hotel timeshare program. I went for 3 reasons: I wanted to take notes on the sales pitch, I was curious about how the actual program worked and I wanted the 40,000 hotel points.

I did not end up buying the timeshare, I could see the benefits of the program for some people, just not for myself.

I did enjoy the sales process. It was really informative and I was amazed at the performance of the sales people.

    2. Show you the model

    Let’s go take a look at the property.

    Here is a studio. And here is a 1 bedroom. Each property is customized with interior to match the surrounding location.

    3. Ask you questions to get to know you

    How many days do you travel?

    How much do you usually spend per night when you travel?

    Where do you want to travel to?

    4. Describe the program

    You are really purchasing ’points’ and then you use those points to book any hotel property around the world.

    5. Show you the value

    Renting V Buying.

    Buying is a better value for the customer because you spend the same amount of money and then get a deed at the end.

    6. Bring in the inventory specialist

    Now that I described the program, I will be right back with the ‘inventory‘ specialist.

    The inventory specialist comes in with the binder of the different prices.

    Of course the price was too high.

    yearly HOA forever

    You lock yourself into those properties for the rest of your vacation life.

    Hotels have breakfast, restaurants and room service. Villas do not.

    There are a lot more hotel options than villa options.

    I do not want to be owner. I find value in renting and then leaving after I am done using the hotel.
