What are 10 life hacks?
Just listing a few things that have helped me lately lose weight, feel better, and reduce stress.
1. Go with the flow
I've been in great shape and been in poor shape (for me). Stressful times have mostly made me want to eat more, but there have been a few times I couldn't eat much when stressed. Stress will influence your body and mind and while you can take some steps to alleviate the stress, it won't go away until you solve the things that are causing the stress. At the end of 2022, I was in the worst shape of my life, mainly due to stress. Mediating didn't work. I was always hungry and not really feeling like working out. I knew I'd get out of that mode and into a better mode. Life ebbs and flows, I can do a better job during the ebbs and hope to learn from this time!
2. A partner in health
My spouse used to eat terribly and now we both are making an effort to eat better, workout more, and improve. It has made going to the gym easier, bc we go together. We take walks together. We don't eat exactly the same, but we help cook together and enjoy working in the kitchen together.
3. Fasting
Unless you are going to be working out a lot. Otherwise, you likely have enough fuel stored in the system. Drink black coffee and water until about 2-3pm, then have a small meal, usually some eggs or meat. Then dinner around 5-7. Lower carb, but not no carb. On days I workout, I will eat a normal lunch and dinner and up the carbs some.
4. Walking
Been upping my steps this year. Trying to take a few 20-30 min walks and then go about my normal day. I'm getting 5-8k steps fairly easily, which is pretty good for me.
5. Cooking
Mostly at home. Mostly meats, eggs, beans, fruits and veggies. Some nuts and organic PB. Cut out dairy, even though I like it...There is no question that eating is the #1 way to losing or maintaining weight.
6. Drink less (or not at all)
I like to drink, so I've tried to cut down to 1-2 nights a week. And not as much. It's working, for now.
7. Plan a few trips or events or goals
A few things to get motivated for. Or events you want to enter to prepare for. Or certain physical goals you want to achieve. Make a plan and track it. I've got two trips coming up and want to feel decent about myself when I see people. Most of my friends were ragging on me for my physique and I am glad that they did.
8. Less Gym
I'm actually lifting less days a week now. 2-3 days a week. I committed to lowering my weights and having better form. I feel good, just my ego at the gym has taken a hit....Track all weight exercises. Pretty much stay with the same program for almost 2 months. Some days, if I don't feel great, I don't track and just get through the workout at a lighter weight or lower reps. But when feel decent, back to tracking.
9. Faturday
Do eat 3 meals on Saturday. Grab a small breakfast sandwich from one of my favorite places. Then try and eat whatever I want, just not in massive quantities. I have been drinking Saturday evening, but less than I used to.
10. Take short breaks
Haven't had many breaks this year, but I will and I'll be ok with it. Won't beat myself up. Just get back on the horse. Sometimes, after a break, lifting gets easier and you go up in weight magically. Body needs different cycles, I suppose.
11. Focus on the basics
No fancy nonsense.
12. Medidate
Been doing this more lately. My best streak ever was 35 days straight, I'd like to beat that. I'm not even going for long (5 min or so), but trying to be consistent. Almost to 20 days. When I was really stressed, meditation was a waste of time, so who knows if this actually works for me, or not. But, I like the streaks (thanks NotePD) and want to beat 35.
