What are must-read books you'd recommend to someone in their 20s?

Preview

    1. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams

Because the most bizarre, inane stuff will happen to you and everybody might not even notice how nuts it gets and you still have to keep your wits about you and laugh at it all.

    2. How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big - Scott Adams

Because you need to use systems instead of goals (and so many people will sell you on goals, and they're all wrong) and find the user interface to reality as soon as possible.

    3. Finite and Infinite Games - James P. Carse

Because you should start to form a framework for understanding how and why the world and its people behave and participate in life the way they do.

    4. The Design of Everyday Things - Don Norman

Because you need to know that every product has a user and a purpose and if you're going to solve problems (and any meaningful pursuit is problem solving in some form or another) you have to know the basics of why people use the things they use.

    5. 12 Rules for Life: The Antidote to Chaos - Jordan Peterson

Because as you move into your real adult life, things will be complicated in ways you cannot possibly imagine and you don't want to flail at the oncoming storm.

    6. Influence - Robert Cialdini

Because now you have disposable income and businesses will do their best to part you and your money at all times for the rest of your life and you should know their techniques and be able to use them for yourself.

    7. Choose Yourself, Reinvent Yourself, and Skip the Line - James Altucher

Because there is a beautiful method to developing your potential as a creator, contributor, and future businessperson (because living is the business of "you" and you're the CEO now - it's all on you).

    8. Fight Club - Chuck Palahniuk

Because (especially if you're a young man) the world might suddenly appear to be aligned against you and the yawning canyon of boredom prodding your under-indulged urge to create, destroy, fight, and f**k.

    9. The First Law - Joe Abercrombie

Because George R. R. Martin is never going to finish A Song of Ice and Fire and the show ruined it anyway and Abercrombie lights the pages on fire with his battle prose.

    10. Casino Gambling for the Winner - Lyle Stuart

Because now you can legally gamble and you're a sucker until proven otherwise and learning discipline in games of chance teaches you a lot about the odds in the game of life.
