What I learned from a Theological conference

This weekend, I went to a conference honoring the life and work of a woman theologian called Mildred Bangs Wynkoop (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mildred_Bangs_Wynkoop). She wrote a book called A Theology of Love: The Dynamic of Wesleyanism that had a huge impact on multiple folks. I have not read the book, but because of the conference I bought the $30 e-book. Some evangelicals nowadays might consider her heretic, but I'm good with that. She seems like she was a fabulous person. She lived during the early 20th century and died in 1997.

    1. - "Christian experiences were Life experiences before they became statements of faith."

A theme that was repeated throughout the conference was the idea that Christian experience / belief is dynamic and should stay dynamic.

    2. Relationships cannot be reduced to a system

    3. Holiness is less purity culture and more Love (how we interact with God and with others)

    4. Love is the personalizing of moral integrity

    5. We have been invited into Christ's work, we are not inviting Christ into our world

    6. When you read the Bible, look behind the words of the story to find the human situation to which the words were addressed

    7. Several books that I want to read that were influenced or a result of this work that Prof Wynkoop wrote.
