What is your biggest dream? List 10 steps you can take to make that dream a reality in one month.

I saw this challenge yesterday and I wasn't sure what to make of it. This morning I saw the entry from @eyegor which got me to thinking. In many past posts here I've shared that I've never been much of a goal oriented person.

    1. Life evolves

Changes can be abrupt or gradual, my experience is that there are more gradual changes than abrupt ones. Often we can see the gradual changes coming. When you're in school, you know at some point you will graduate--that's can be a gradual change with plenty of time to prepare. Have you ever been laid off? I was in 2001 and that certainly was abrupt but even there, the writing was on the wall and I started to prepare well in advance.

    2. Do things for your future self

By do things I guess I mean invest in yourself to improve optionality and resilience. Learn new skills for no reason at all. Stay in shape. Actively volunteer. Live below your means.

    3. Live in the moment

There's a saying about life being about the journey, not the destination. The downside of being too focused on future goals is that you end up wishing your life away. A less dramatic example of this is disliking your job so much you wish away the week to get to the weekend or wish away the next few years until you retire.

    4. Don't underestimate the value of stasis

This doesn't get said enough, it is ok to be happy with where you are in life. Are you happy at home? Are you healthy? Do you do things you enjoy? Can you withstand a financial bump in the road? That all sounds pretty good to me. There will continue to be gradual and abrupt changes but it is ok to be happy with where you are in life (repeated for emphasis).
