What To Do Today - or any day

vocation or avocation

    1. wondering about what to do

I have a friend who wakes up each morning and starts smoking and is unhappy. I start with prayer and thinking of the people I pray for. not for everyone I guess but I think the overwhelming need to feel secure financially or with a job is becoming more difficult for so many. A simple routine works for many especially the athletes (Good luck to your daughter in the games @James Altrucher) who exercise every day. Getting up to work all day is not the best or only routine.

There is a difference between a vocation and avocation so I started my musical education and have worn myself out happily learning and playing and having some social interaction. This is an avocation. For Fun and challenge and just keeping up with "hobbies" is great - and adds another stable aspect to my day doing practice. Money isn't everything and during times like we are going through (like the 70's gas rationing or 80's slump) I actually did better. People enjoyed each other. When things are running hot there are alot of segways (the way I spell it) and frustration from fear porn, politrics porn and hackers.

An avocation and adding daily to it is a way out. For instance I am learning the modes and came up with a strange challenging locrian to dorian/mixolydian mode melody, whew...at least I think I did, but it sounds very haunting and contemplative. Another friend just said she was going to learn bird songs by ear since she cant see too well at 73. No money or lots of money, you cant beat a good passtime that involves you! No eyestrain with audio enjoyments.

    2. and another thing to do

like walking. Meandering really and I miss my various finds and conversations on my usually daily walk if I am not out there. The squirrels, the trees and even the weather are awesome. It doesn't cost anything to enjoy nature right around where you are.

I once saw a queen and escort looking for a new place. she rested while the scouts went in several directions and 15 min later they all led the queen to her new home. Only once in my life have I ever seen that phenomenon.

    3. Natural behaviorism

Since we are outside (at least in our minds) look around and see how crows are pack birds and watch how they protect the feeders and take turns on watches. They plan as well and know how to open and untie things but like the wolves they watch out for each other and I think we can learn and adapt our behavior from pure predatory to social structuring of a better global neighborhood.
