Why is it important to surround yourself with the right people - Key green flags for people in your life

You attract and surround yourself with the "right people" becoming the highest version of yourself

When most people hear of clichés like “surrounding yourself with the right people” – all they think of is you hanging around the most expensive gyms, exotic hotels, bars and communities. Yes some of that can matter but they’re all secondary.

It all starts with you.

You attract the right people by becoming the highest version of yourself.

Here are a few green flags that shows you're on track:

    1. The right people don’t laugh at your dreams & aspirations

Think of your present circle … can you tell them a huge goal without them laughing you in the face?

Can you get refined ideas just by interacting with them? If not, you need to recheck who you hang around with else you may be planting your seeds in the wrong soil which may never grow.

The people in your life should support your dreams and goals, not try to hold you back or bring you down.

    2. The right people tell you the truth

Surround yourself with people who will call you out if you step out of line.

You don’t want to surround yourself with Yes-men who are either afraid to tell you the truth or never have truth in their dictionary.

Honesty is important in any relationship, but it's especially important when it comes to the people you surround yourself with. You need to be able to trust them.

    3. The right people are optimists

I'm all for eliminating all negativity in your life and focusing on yourself. So when you surround yourself with others, you don’t want to attract any negative energy.

Surround yourself with positive people that uplift you.

    4. The right people are not parasitic

Don’t surround yourself with people who look good on the outside but end up only takers and have nothing to offer. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a coach or spiritual authority.

It’s hard to imagine this, but I’ve seen where people struggle to hang around certain kinds of people they thought would help them and they turn out to sap them out.

    5. They right people have big goals

You don’t want to be the smartest guy in the room…ever. The right people have an intrinsic motivation themselves to dream and achieve great things. By your association with them you get inspired.

You start believing things you thought were impossible becoming possible.

Here’s how my friend Jan Koch on virtual mastery, put it:

“Surround yourself with people who can set accurate goals.

    6. The Right people always want to push you forward

Be around people who challenge you.

They don’t believe in stagnancy either of themselves or anyone around them. You hear them ask you how you’re doing and listening to know how much you’ve improved from where they met you.

You know the right people when they don’t tolerate your excuses and make sure you’re moving forward in life and on the right track.

They aren't afraid to call you out when you're slacking, and they make sure that you're always growing and learning.

    7. Hang around people who respect your boundaries:

These are the people who know when to give you space, and they understand your need for privacy and independence. They never try to control or manipulate you, and they allow you to be yourself.

The right people support your decisions, even if they don't always agree with them, because they know that it is what makes YOU happy.

Mutual respect is the foundation of any good relationship.

    8. Be around people who share your values:

These are the people who believe in what is important to you.The relationship is not forced as you have more in common. E.g. most people on this app are not just trying to improve themselves but helping others. We share this in common. It's why I go to church to boost my faith, publish & post on Facebook groups and sites like this.

It's so much easier to build a future when you're on the same page.

True story, i had a colleague that kept working so hard and adding new jobs to support himself. And when we asked him what he planned to do with the money; he claimed it was to cushion the effect of his "friends" who were always asking for booze and support. Of course, we felt pity for him and wondered why he would choose to surround himself with people that only cared about booze and giveaways in the first place.

    9. Surround yourself with people that make you feel good about yourself

The people in your life should make you feel good about yourself, not put you down or make you feel bad about who you are.

    10. Surround yourself with people that have your best interests at heart:

Finally, the people you surround yourself with should be looking out for your best interests and not just their own.
