You can only carry 3 fiction books with you, which ones would you choose? Why?

    1. Either Anna Karenina or War and Peace

I finished neither of those books yet. Great characters, great writing. Also, Tolstoy's books are long enough to get completely immersed in them. They provide interesting views into Russian society of the 19th century.

    2. Letters to the Chinese Past

This one is from the Bavarian writer Herbert Rosendorfer, who was also a lawyer. As far as I know, it has not been translated to English. It is about a Chinese mandarin from the 10th century who uses a time machine to travel to the future. As the inventor of that time machine didn't know about the movement of the earth, he lands in Munich in the 1980s. He manages to write back to his friend about the people and society of his destination.

    3. Hard Boiled Wonderland by Haruki Murakami

My favorite book from my favorite genre. Is it called Magic Realism? I read that book a lot about 15 years ago, during a winter with heavy snowfall. So, in my mind, that book will always be connected to shoveling snow, making breaks with hot cocoa and studying weather forecasts. The book is about the inner world of a man who serves to code end encode messages. It is a peaceful little world, a town behind a wall with a handful of characters and some surreal elements. In the end, the protagonist decides to live there forever and cut all connections to the outside world.
