Your Bad Idea List Making Habits

There are definitely a few things I'm aware I need to be better about when it comes to list-making. Plus, I'm sure there are other ways I could be better that I'm not aware of.

RE the former-- hopefully this list will force me to identify things I can improve on, so that I can target what to do better

RE the latter-- I'm curious to read what others have to say and see whether any of it applies to me as well.

    1. Rushing

Sometimes I write lists too quickly for the sole purpose of getting them done. This isn't ideal because my idea quality is lower.

    2. Trying to complete a list in one sitting

This isn't always a problem, but, for some more challenging topics, I typically need a bit of time to reflect and can't be an idea machine on demand.

    3. Over-crowdsourcing

From time to time I'll ask a friend or loved one for inspiration, and they'll end up rattling off quite a few things. It's great that they're so engaged, but, for me, a main goal of writing idea lists is to think up the ideas myself

    4. Writing in stream of consciousness and not having a framework for my thinking

Sometimes this is fine, but other times I'd do well to lay out how I want to approach a problem/challenge before just writing away.

    5. Writing lists on dull topics because I'm too lazy to think up more meaningful ones

Again, I think this is fine every once in a while, but I want to avoid it becoming a habit.
