4 Interesting / Weird Patents I Randomly Found

I used the Google Patents website and searched on terms I was curious to see what inventions might be out there and who owns them.

    1. Invention for Creativity.

This own was done at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and involves some sort of brain / cortical stimulation that boosts alertness and creativity (I found this by searching on "Creativity") as well as treatment for some neurological disorders.

    Here's the patent: https://patents.google.com/patent/US10188342B2/en?q=creativity&oq=creativity

Here's a paragraph from a paper written by the professor, Michael Boyle, who filed the patent:

Creativity, the ability to produce innovative ideas, is a key higher-order cognitive function that is poorly understood. At the level of macroscopic cortical network dynamics, recent electroencephalography (EEG) data suggests that cortical oscillations in the alpha frequency band (8-12 Hz) are correlated with creative thinking. However, whether alpha oscillations play a functional role in creativity has remained unknown. Here we show that creativity is increased by enhancing alpha power using 10 Hz transcranial alternating current stimulation (10 Hz-tACS) of the frontal cortex. In a study of 20 healthy participants with a randomized, balanced cross-over design, we found a significant improvement of 7.4% in the Creativity Index measured by the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (TTCT), a comprehensive and most frequently used assay of creative potential and strengths.

    I want to try this!

    2. A jet pack!

    Here's the patent: https://patents.google.com/patent/US10994841B2/en?q=jetpack&oq=jetpack

And here's a paragraph from it:

This Electric JetPack device invention relates to powered aircraft. A one-person-carrying electric, using a belt-like cluster of small, multiple electric JetPack thrusters, side-by-side ducted thrusters, vertical-takeoff-and-landing (VTOL), aircraft for individual transportation.

Looks like it was filed by Peter Bitar so i googled him.

Attached is a picture of Peter at something called the "Vertical Flight Society". He looks like he's dressed like a superhero.

Looks like he intends to sell a real jetpack in a year or so. Here's a quote after he won some contest at NASA:

Bitar said he expects to bring the first Leo coupes — designed to seat up to three people, travel at speeds up to 250 mph and fit in a standard two-car garage — to market at a price of about $290,000 in 2023 or 2024. At that price range, the oversized drones would be used primarily as air taxis, he added.

    3. I searched for "artificial intelligence" patents filed by google. An AI that detects what item on a menu you want.

The patent says: "1. A method for providing a graphical user interface to determine intent of a user based at least in part on movement of an eye or eyes of the user, "

So it sees where on the menu an eye is looking and then selects that option. Pretty cool:

    4. Not sure what this is but probably not good.

Using a large amount of data of "normal" and "abnormal" human body motions this group will look at videos "in the household" or other environments to determine abnormal behavior and then alert the appropriate authorities.

    The patent assignee: China.

Wonder how they are looking at people in their houses and what they think is "abnormal" behavior.

    Here's a quote:

The invention can quickly obtain abnormal action information in the monitoring video, and designs a target detection network model required for detecting the human body boundary frame, an action recognition network model for analyzing the human body action and an abnormal score learning model for predicting abnormal score
