10 rules for a new religion
1. What properly conducted scientific studies find is accepted as true.
At least, until other properly conducted scientific studies find out otherwise.
2. Be fair to other people and animals, and be kind if you can.
We don't expect you to be nice to assholes. However, you should refrain from cheating on your spouse, hitting your children, and bullying your employees. Strive to treat others as you would like to be treated yourself.
3. The religious practice consists of meditation and conversation.
Members are free to hold masses and meditative celebrations.
Part of religious practice can be helping others when they ask you to (provided you think that help will bring good results, and you don't feel taken advantage of).
4. There are no priests, but helpers and preachers.
If a dozen members certify that you have sound views and have helped them, you may preach and hold meetings. No one is allowed to be a full-time preacher and make a living from it.
5. You are free to believe in God or not to believe.
As long as you believe this life has meaning.
6. The scriptures are ANY publication that at least a hundred members report has been helpful in their spiritual journey.
Members are also free to argue against the usefulness of particular books and to reject or publicly burn them.
People whose sacred book is The Lord of the Rings may find a spiritual home here. ;)
7. We do not condone fundamentally hostile attitudes towards groups of people.
So no racism, no feminism that rejects all men, no anti-Semitism, no left-wing extremism that advocates violence against the rich.
8. In some extreme cases, it is permissible to lie or break some other rules.
For example, you previously belonged to a religion that murders apostates, you are free to pretend you still belong to it.
9. However, if it is possible, you must follow the truth
Above all, this means being honest with yourself and the people who are close to you.
10. If you are a benevolent person and have the necessary knowledge and interesting ideas, you can contribute to the theology of our religion
The content consists of these ten principles and any consistent philosophy or other science that helps us to live a better life and better understand our existence.
