7 Ways to Move From Motions To Actions

I read an article by James Clear, and it got me thinking.

James says, “When you’re in motion, you’re planning and strategizing and learning. Those are all good things, but they don’t produce a result. Action, on the other hand, is the type of behavior that will deliver an outcome.”

How can we move from motion to action?

    1. Change the mindset

    I think everything starts from how we see ourselves. If we see ourselves as capable people, moving from motion to action will be easier.

    Are you the person who can take an action and see it through till completion?

    2. Have a goal

    What is the goal that instigated the motion? Is there a clear why behind the motion?

    Say you want to write a book, you found your niche and you have an idea. That is motion.
    It helps if you know why you want to write a book. For financial reasons? to leave a legacy? to command authority in a field? etc.

    3. Turn the motion into actions through an idea list

    Start by breaking down the objective into tasks in the form of idea list.

    A book idea can turn into a list of chapters, then a list of key points for each chapter, etc.

    4. Create a Next-Action list to get you moving

    Writing a next action list for my to-do list is useful.
    Say I want to write an idea list of chapters for my book. My next action is to search how successful authors break down a book into chapters, write the draft as an idea list on NotePD, or something like this.

    5. Think in pathways

    Pathway thinking helps find the best route to get to your goal. This route can be a mentor who can guide you, a consultant who can provide you with services that would have taken you a long time to figure out on your own. The pathway thinking forces you to think about the WHO instead of WHAT.

    6. Set a timeline

    Timeline for the overall goal and timelines from the actions.

    7. Build a habit of consuming through the lenses of producing

    It makes you a smart consumer. You start consuming things that will help you with your goal. What we focus on expand.
