I believe these are almost always a bad idea. But an option

2. Travel blog

Many folks want to travel during retirement. Publish your travels and monetize it.

3. Rent a room. Or your house.

Several different ways to do this. Listing an extra bedroom as a short term rental is the most apparent.

4. Camp host

5. Product tester / demonstrator

As you enjoy travel from one event to another, you product test and or do product demos for marketing firms.

6. Empty your basement / attic

Downsize. Simplify. Get rid of excess stuff you've accumulated.

7. Don’t retire.

Perhaps the idea of retirement is flawed. We should just move on to the next thing.

8. Monetize a hobby.

You already have the equipment and experience.

I also used to think that reverse mortgages were bad, and maybe they still are. However, I have a financially sophisticated neighbor who is currently in his 80s who has a reverse mortgage and he thinks it’s great. when the time comes, I might need to look into it a little bit more!

Similar experience here. I only know one gentleman who was receiving a monthly payment from his reverse mortgage. Unfortunately, he received less than a year's worth of payments before he died. The heirs were unaware of this financial arrangement and were worried about about the legalities. Because the reverse mortgage had been in place for a relatively short time, it was not costly or difficult to re-pay and terminate.
