Dick Allen belongs in the HoF, Dave Parker does not

This is about baseball. Both players were great, neither is in the hall of fame and while many people think both should be in the hall, I think only Allen should be. I loved both of them when I was kid, this is a fun thing to break down.

    1. Regular stats

    0

    Batting average/HR/RBI

    Allen .292/351/1119

    Parker .290/339/1493

    Preview

    2. Regular stats per 162

    0

Not sure if many people look at stats per a full 162 game season but I think it provides context

    Batting avg/HR/RBI

    Allen .292/33/104

    Parker .290/22/98

    Preview

    3. Advanced stats

    0

    OPS/OPS+/WAR

    Allen .912/156/58.7

    Parker .810/121/40.1

    4. Number of dominant seasons

    0

Just how I look at this, choose your own metrics and levels

    .300 BA/25 HR/100 RBI/WAR5

    Allen 7/7/3/6

    Parker 6/6/4/4

    5. Other

    0

Both have one league MVP award and were all-stars seven times. Parker won two world series but Allen never won one. Parker won other awards; 3x gold glove and 2x batting title. Allen was Rookie of the Year in 1964.

Parker had way more hits than Allen 2712 to 1848 but Parker played 19 seaons to 15 for Allen. Parker had a couple great seasons, really great but based on WAR his best season was 1978 with a WAR of 7.4. Allen's best three seasons based on WAR were 8.8, 8.6 and 7.5.

Solid break down. My only add-on is there has to be a method of looking at and highlighting the player's streak of dominant years. For Parker, '78 and '79 or '85 and '86. Those were Hall of Fame years. And- his numbers do stand up across time. Always good to talk baseball

A while back I heard someone say something like "10 dominant years gets you into the HoF." So those are easy to see. Some of the close calls are tougher but fun to debate.
