Daring people of NotePD! Last week, I went to the Disgusting Food Museum in Berlin. Since I grew up in a different upbringing than Germany/Europe, I realized I have a different concept of what is disgusting food for me. (Durian vs stinky cheese, for example). What my German friend and I agree on, however, is that food created with extreme animal suffering is a definite no-go (looking at foie-gras).
I am curious to read your list of disgusting food or food that other people think is disgusting but for you, is normal. Also, would love to hear what you thought of the food!
1. Durian
I was once told by a girl I worked with that I smelled like durian. This was in the 90s when I lived in NYC and would go to Chinatown and buy it. It's a fruit from Southeast Asia. Smells like rotting garbage but supposedly tastes great.2. Stinky Cheese
I had some at the museum but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. But definitely stinks!3. Chicken feet
I've had this at Chinese restaurants many times but never liked it.4. Spam
My friend Matt always orders spam fries when we go to In-N-Out Burger. He says they are delicious and he can't figure out why everyone is so weird about them.5. Catfish (fried)
I grew up in the South and this is a staple there, especially at church picnics where you eat fried chicken, catfish, baked beans, etc. Not sure why but I've never liked it!6. Oysters or any other raw seafood dish
Never tried them but my wife always tells me they taste like "the ocean" which seems like an insult to the ocean since oceans are disgusting anyway!
