how i invite ordinary magick into my days
ways i set myself up to experience more of that flowy feeling that all of Life is connected (and i'm part of it).
1. meditate
i swear that my daily hour of meditation is changing the way that i perceive time and my day-to-day life. yesterday, i was slicing a lemon to squeeze into soup and i was SO taken with the scent of the lemon that i stood there just breathing in its scent for what must've been nearly two full minutes. doesn't seem like a big deal but that moment felt SO full and lush.2. surround myself with things that are happy making
granted... nothing (and no one) can *make* me happy... but there's definitely something to enjoying things / places / people etc... and having things that i love around me helps. (the gel pens, beeswax candles, and various cards & books mentioned in a previous note, for example). these all give me joy & that opens the potential to experience ordinary magick.3. time outside
the heat makes it harder on me, but i try to make a point of being outside for at least a few minutes every day (in a way that's conscious, present, and aware). i watch the dragonflies. appreciate the trees. feel the breeze on my skin. enjoy the weather. whatever it is... just being outside & breathing freely.4. creativity
it's so easy for me to get caught up in comparisonitis and use that as an excuse to stop creating with my hands. but when i get over myself & just play (with collage, paint, coloring, etc...) i feel far more free and alive.5. draw a card every day
i've taken to drawing a card every morning (currently using The Tarot of Trees and the Osho Zen deck, both apps on my iPhone though i also have a physical copy of the former. used to also have a physical copy of the latter but passed those to someone else). really digging playing with what the cards suggest & how that does (or doesn't) fit into my current perception of my life.6. pay attention (h/t Mary Oliver!)
along the lines of the above, i am really enjoying paying attention to the weather, to things people say, to my dreams, to song lyrics etc... and drawing connections between things that i might've missed had i not been paying attention. another way that Life feels alive and full of magick.
