How To Live -27 conflicting answers and one weird conclusion - Derek Sivers - Pursue Pain 11 Insights

    1. Th softer the chair, the harder it is to get out of it.

Familiarity breeds contempt - if you know someone very well you stop respecting them because you have seen all of their bad qualities.

You can't recognize the "bad" qualities of others without seeing your own.

Having contempt or disrespect for others places the ball back in your court.

The more you think you know someone the less you actually know.

    2. Food that tastes good is bad for you, and vice-versa.

What food are you eating now? That's what counts.

    3. We empathize with someone who's struggling.

It opens our hearts more than seeing someone win.

Any tactic that opens up your heart is a win.

    4. The best waves on the beach can knock you over.

There's no best wave, just ride the wave.

    5. Any challenge can be turned into a game.

Gamify everything. Your life wasn't meant to be a struggle.

    6. The English word "passion" comes from the Latin word "pati", meaning to suffer or endure.

You're the dreamer of the dream.

Passion is a call for you to step into your divine inspiration.

You suffer because you're not following your passion - that burning fire within that is responsible for your restless nights.

    7. Every pain has a lesson inside, and a reason why it hurts.

Pain is a sign that you are looking at the situation with unloving eyes.

Where's the pain when there's a total acceptance of "what is?"

Surrendering to your false beliefs and replacing them with Truth isn't a sign of weakness but rather one of strength.

Learn the lesson and the pain has no reason to hang around.

"Lord, grant that I might not so much seek to be loved as to love" - Francis of Assisi

    8. Ghosts don't leave until you've understood their message.

Every fear is a ghost that you've made.

Ghosts aren't real but you believe they exist. You're dreaming.

No need to turn your dream into a nightmare.

    9. You lie when you're afraid.

    Lying is cognitively depleting.

The amygdala is a roughly almond-shaped mass of gray matter inside each cerebral hemisphere, involved with the experiencing of emotions.

The researchers said the amygdala shows up less and less, as we lie more and more. Essentially, our guilt feelings tend to weaken and shrink. This is a wonderful outcome because you're innocent.

The only reason you could possibly be fearful is based on a lie.

You wouldn't feel afraid if you knew who walked beside you.

    10. The sooner you pay a price, the less it costs.

Rush toward the things you fear and watch them disappear.

The price you're paying right now is way too high. There's no reason to suffer.

    11. The best way to learn a foreign language is to stop speaking your mother tongue.

    Immerse yourself in the culture.

Speak only the language of love. It seems to be foreign to many.

    I love you.
