Random Tidbits From Me
1. Favorite Album of all time?
A question asked on Twitter. My favorite is probably Stop Making Sense by Talking Heads. Not my favorite group but great album.
2. Is owning a home a bad idea?
Another question from Twitter. My answer there was it's easy to make mistakes but less house than you can afford with a 15 year mortgage is a pretty good way to go.
3. Another word for spiritual
I saw this on NotePD, a list by @jjbitters. I commented that I get my sense of spirituality by being connected to nature. We live in the woods, in the mountains, we're exposed to nature every day for most of the day.
4. Competing with the younger you?
From today's fire training, I start each training with something related to diet and/or exercise. Today I said it is not productive compare how much weight you can lift to how much another person can lift. But you can compare how much you can lift today to a younger version of yourself, from whenever you thought you were strong. There's no reason many of us can't get to the point of being about as strong as we were when we were in our 20's or whatever. It requires putting in the work but is doable. I'm actually a little stronger than I was in college and my 20's, at 56, with some lifting exercises I am the strongest I've ever been. This is relative to my younger self not relative to how much other people can lift. This is doable and will make aging easier, you just need to put in the work.
5. Have to/get to
I think this is a list from @annbeaudet (apologies if that is wrong). It may sound hokie but it isn't. I clued into this a long time ago and although I am far from infallible here, thinking in terms of getting to do something versus having to can have a huge positive impact.
6. Great wisdom
@eyegor had a list about EMS history. I've been an EMT for 11 years. When was taking the class, one of the teacher assistants said "you don't learn to be an EMT until you become an EMT." It applies to many things. Not relevant to Eyegor's list but always worth sharing.
