Reasons to have a cat

Yesterday I wrote about Reasons not to have a cat. Obviously, there are reasons to have one, because I have one. So to complete the circle....

He thinks this is all I have to do all day.

    1. He teaches me to chill

He is relentless when he wants food or attention. Otherwise, he is quite zen.

    2. When I have to travel, caring for him by someone else is much easier

He pretty much will have nothing to do with anyone else. He certainly does not need walking. As long as someone puts food in his bowl, checks his water, and cleans his litter box, he'll be OK until I get back, although....

    3. He's never really happy unless he's right beside me

I have been told that when I'm away from home, he prowls constantly looking for me and letting it be known that he is pissed off. When I get home, he first demands to be fed. Then he demands a certain amount of petting. After that, he just lays beside me.

    4. He is convinced he will one day catch the red dot

    Hope springs eternal.

    5. Sometimes he pets ME!

I used to think he would paw me looking for attention, but I've become convinced that he's simply trying to return the favor. No doubt that in earlier years he would reach out and pat my leg with a paw when he wasn't getting enough attention. If I didn't respond, he would get the sharp things out, as I mentioned yesterday. But I've realized that often when I am petting him he will also reach out and just rest a paw gently on my leg. I really think he intends to send a message of mutual connection.

I completely agree with this post. As a cat owner myself, I can attest to the fact that having a feline friend can bring a lot of joy and relaxation into your life. They have a way of teaching us to slow down and appreciate the little things, like a cozy nap or a good scratch behind the ears. And while they may be demanding at times, their independence and low-maintenance nature make them an ideal pet for busy lifestyles. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the benefits of having a cat!
