Stream of Consciousness Story Ideas
[Minor SPOILER alert for The Sandman]: There's an episode of The Sandman (on Netflix, based on the classic comics where an author is cursed with an abundance of ideas for stories. He quickly gets overwhelmed, but I wondered if I could sort of simulate what he goes through, only temporarily of course.
1. The Last Cockroach on Earth
An apocalypse so severe even cockroaches don't survive, except for one.
2. A Game of Chess Between A Guardian Angel and the Angel of Death
Their subjects go through near-misses, or deadly mishaps, unaware of the greater game above them.
3. A Club For Indecisive People
They can't find a name for their club.
4. An Assassin's Retirement Party
All the guests are fellow assassins, and it's not actually clear who is being 'retired'.
5. A Support Group for Amputations
Fragments of the spirit of the owners of lost limbs live on, and they miss their owners.
6. The Myth of Money
One day, suddenly no one can remember what money is. The modern world has to figure itself out through a barter economy.
7. A Lawyer With Synesthesia 'Hears' Signatures as Music
A divorce proceeding comes across as a symphony to her.
8. A Woman Sees Omens in the Daily Crossword
9. An Alien Race Has Outlawed Contact With Earth
They have guards who work tirelessly to prevent their own delinquents from breaking this law.
