Things I learned from climbing

    1. You learn the most when challenging yourself. You learn much more doing something you can't do than trying to perfect something you can do.

    2. Fear can be overblown. Even if I know I'm roped in and all the knots are double-checked and I"m 99.99% safe, I can still feel fear.

    3. You can underestimate fear. Even if all safety precautions are taken, there's things that can go wrong outside of your control

    4. Skills can transfer but the context still matters. Climbing outside is fundamentally the same as climbing inside but you need to learn how to translate the skills to the new environment.

    5. Little things matter. The slightest adjustment in weight or angle can be the difference between falling and resting

    6. Perseverance. Sometimes you find the right solution by iterating small adjustments. Sometimes it's by thinking out of the box. But you can only solve a specific problem by trying again.

    7. Knowing when to quit. Sometimes it's better to walk away. You can always come back later

    8. Watch other people. There's no shame in copying other people. When you do, you'll still have to adjust the method to fit yourself.

    9. If you've limited the downside, there's no harm in trying.

    10. Success changes your mood. Sometimes you're not feeling it. But if you go anyway, one little success can change everything.
