Ways To Add Value
Inspired by a list from @sheeraz
1. Try to help people...
...expecting nothing in return
2. Share what you know
There's a fine line between sharing and unsolicited advice.
3. Be genuinely happy when others succeed and let them know
No other emotion, just happy for them. Might be a learned skill.
4. Live a life of service
Similar to number 1 but more of a formal commitment.
5. Set an example for others
6. Write
I've been writing in various places since 2004. You never know when some little nugget you might share, that you might not even remember, could really help someone or have an impact. Also, words live forever.
7. Via negativa
If something you might say could be taken negatively or not make it better, don't say it. You'll be the only one in that situation who'd know you added value.
8. Make things better when no one is looking.
We've had serious rain here and yesterday's storm made the main road here a mess. The worst I saw was a rock slide of a bunch of little rocks which narrowed the road to one lane. It only took ten minutes to clear out the rocks and restore the second lane.
