What’s Your Perfect Day?

I've thought about this often. Truthfully, my perfect day is one that is fully improvised -- when I follow the ebb and flow of how the day naturally progresses and allow myself to be surprised.

BUT... the thing that makes the improvised day special is because it's outside of the "norm". I do like to schedule my day as often as I can, so as of Now, here is my "perfect" day.

    1. Wake up at 4AM without an alarm.

I've never gotten to this level, but I did wake up at 5AM without an alarm consistently for a few months until a new job threw me off schedule.

So much can be done in the morning when there is zero distractions. I'm an introvert. I enjoy my alone time. Being up so early ensures that I get my "me" time. I also feel a personal beauty that swells within my chest when I'm up at sunrise. For lack of a better word, it's a spiritual experience.

    2. 1 to 2 Hours of Yoga-Meditation

I have a yoga-meditation practice that I do every morning, no excuses and no exceptions. It usually runs me about 42 minutes total. I'd go longer, but I fear I'm "wasting time".

A part of my brain recognizes that meditation is the best part of the day, and has many benefits outside of the time when it's taking place. But... I still feel like I should be "doing" something.

I'd be more joyful if I never felt that.

    3. Journaling / Morning Pages

I journal every day, and last year I began a habit I heard about from Penn Jillette.

He writes his daily journal entry, then he goes back and reads the journal entry from 10 years ago, 5 years ago, and 1 year ago.

I love it! It puts so much into perspective. It's a tremendous tool for Self-Understanding.

    4. My 10 Ideas List

Something I'm literally beginning today. I like flexing the creative muscle after the purge of the morning pages. It gives me energy, hope, and makes me feel excited for the day in front of me.

    5. 2 Hours of Focused Work

I tend to juggle too many ideas and projects. It can be a problem. I want to focus on the most important task of the day with unbroken concentration to ensure that I'm moving forward.

    6. Breakfast with Family

I don't yet have children of my own, but eating breakfast together is such a good way to connect and stay a part of their lives.

    7. 2 More Hours of Focused Work

With a nice social break with family, I can return to work feeling refreshed.

    8. Physical Exercise

Some people are "morning exercise "people. Some are "evening exercise" people. I'm a mid-day exercise person. It's not useful for the traditional 9 to 5 job, but it works well for the type of life I want to live.

Physical Exercise is a great punctuation mark in the day. It allows me to step outside my head and go back into my body.

    9. Social Activities

I'm not a fan of most social media. I think it's a time hole, and it's too easy to slip beyond the 'event horizon'.

But, I feel much better when I'm connecting with others. I just need to make sure I don't fall into a hole of mindless scrolling. Scheduling time to email a friend or connect with people on social media would help in this regard.

    10. Improvise the Rest of the Day

I like this around 4PM. I've done everything that "needs" to be done. Now I can kick back and do as I please. More work? Maybe. Some reading? Possibly. Games with friends? Perhaps.

It's the best feeling to be able to enjoy leisure without the weight of "What do I still need to do?" weighing me down.

    11. Make Love Before Bed

Making love is different than having sex, although they can certainly overlap.

I want to fully immerse myself in gratitude and joy and pleasure with my partner and go to bed in each other's arms with a loving smile on my face.
