Ideas Post

Want to deliver impactful messages. Simplify. Here are 4 ideas.

"I hope this is the last slide.”

This is often what crosses our minds when we listen to a presentation.

4 ideas to ensure this doesn't happen to you when you present.

“Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity.
—Charles Mingus

    1. Change the paradigm. Replace “Complexity demonstrates my expertise” with “My expertise is my ability to simplify.

Two books come to mind where the authors brilliantly simplified two complex topics ( coaching & investing).
“The coaching habit by Michael Bungay Stanier” and “The Simple Path to Wealth by J. L. Collins.”

    2. Spend more time on the content.

Simplifying is complicated. It requires spending time on reflection, ideas, chronology—approach technological tools (PowerPoint) for formatting last.

    3. Edit to remove.

Work hard on reflection. Take a break and come back to reduce.

    4. Don’t go deeper before they ask.

Start with the big picture. You know your topic. You’ve worked it through. If they ask questions (ideal situation), you are ready to go deeper.
