How would you improve US health care?
Everyone "knows" that US healthcare system is a mess. ROI is terrible (costs too much for less quality/ life expectancy than other countries. Let's brainstorm together?

This is #1 and by FAR the most important. As an entrepreneur, getting and paying for good health insurance is my biggest challenge.
By expanding access to health care through initiatives like Medicare and Medicaid, more people would be able to get the care they need.
This would provide all US citizens with access to basic health care, regardless of their income level or employment status.
The more treatment someone needs the more healthcare companies make.
A drug is approved by the FDA after three trials (a fourth trial is ongoing I believe).
Phase 1 tests safety. That's the only trial that they should have. As long as it is safe, let the market decide which drugs work.
How come?
A) to go through all the phases could costs $100s of millions of dollars. This drives up the price of medications and also prevents life-saving drugs from hitting the market sooner.
B) companies have to raise that money from investors. So companies that are unsuccessful at raising money often never get lifesaving drugs to the market.
C) There is a degree of implicit corruption where former FDA officials often find jobs later at big Pharma. This is not conspiracy theory but fact. Former SEC officials often end up at banks. Former Congressmen end up at lobbying firms, etc.
So the FDA has its uses (Safety) but let the markets and other modern technologies decide which drugs work.
Our healthcare system needs a complete overhaul. Get rid of medical schools as we know them, get rid of for profit medical system, teach and include wholistic medical care: acupuncture, herbalism, homeopathy, massage, hydrotherapy, nutrition. Clean up our food supply. Teach people nutrition and gardening in schools and give everyone access to fresh produce every week.
As usual, this is off the top of my head. Some areas may already be doing this. Others may not be possible at all.
Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners are a great asset in family practice, Emergency Dept, Urgent Care, and many other settings. This needs to be expanded even more.
This is written from the perspective of a European who has heard horror stories of livelihoods devastated by extremely high medical treatment costs.

For example, the NHS in the UK. The systems in France, Germany and other EU countries work well too.
